The growing hostility between Google / YouTube and creators who "involuntarily supply" their video content has shown that the PC is always going to be the place to watch videos. It would be nice if all your great videos and music files somewhere else that your computer could drive stock? And if a place can be easily connected to your living room TV and stereo, you can view the video and listen to music without a PC integrated into yourLiving room stack of gear? It would be nice if you could use a wireless connection, to move files from your PC, why can not the cable or your living room with Ethernet?

These are not idle questions, but the idea behind the $ 275 MediaGate MG-350HD. It is the size of a hardcover book with lots of cables and connectors for connecting to your TV and stereo. It works sort.

The box is your choice of component, composite, S-Video or DVIVideo connectors, coaxial, optical and two RCA audio connectors. In this selection, a combination that I love you, what you have in your living room. Unlike a Media Center PC, it's quiet and does not generate much heat.

You can connect to your PC via a standard USB port, or use the wired or wireless Ethernet network ports. Does not come with any hard drive - you need to buy an older 3.5-inch IDE drive. (It would be niceif they included a SATA interface, especially since these disks are cheap enough now.) After the opening of four cover screws, you can easily connect the IDE drives in the box and plug it back on, the power and disk formatting drive. There are signs that are written in little translated into English for various versions of Windows, how to do this.

The good news is that the box only the sufficient intelligence for all types of video files that I stored on the handle. I asked my 20 yearsStepson, try a sample of video downloads. It came with subtitles, was one of a version of Babel without subtitles (it's hard, because not much dialogue in English), and was more or less like the theatrical version. None of these files may now play on a standard Windows PC without installing additional audio or video encoder such as DivX. All went well as on the MediaGate.

The bad news is that wireless support and networkbe some effort made to do the job. To use the MediaGate Network as a storage device, you must install a special driver on your Windows PC. It was easier the USB cable or move the files to your hard drive, a little 'defeat the idea behind a network storage box. I have WEP configured on my home network, and I could not get the appropriate key for the MediaGate working, despite his alleged support for this level of encryption.

The unit comes with a small remote controlControl that are used mainly for configuration tasks, and to scroll through the various files to play them. And do not you scroll - the interface is similar to Windows Media Center, which displays the names of folders and files on the screen in large characters, which means that only a couple of ads for each screen. If you have hundreds of files, it takes some effort to find them. Another interesting feature is that a video and audio files to normal USB flash drive, then save and play unitthem.

Both audio and video quality seemed acceptable. You have your choice of 4:3 or 16:9 in the video. In total, the device does a decent job. If you're not a fan of Windows Media Center, this might be a good alternative. Apple iTV is relatively cheap when you factor in the fact that the hard drive, but does not include the cable. ITV but not 4:3 and you need to move iTunes to manage the way in which the content is on the box.

Keller can be used for various purposes, laundry, storage room, bedroom, office space at home and more used. They can also be a cool refuge from summer heat. But when the weather gets colder, the cold fresh out of a basement is much less desirable. If you spend any time in the cellar in winter, you have to heat it.

How to heat my Basement?

Twin Window Fan

One of the most effective ways to heat the cellar with a fireplace, if you have a fully functional fireplace. But a fireplacecan be expensive and difficult to install. For those who do not have a working fireplace in their home, there are still ways to keep warm in the basement. Portable heaters are available in many types and styles available. Among the options include a heavy electric heater, baseboard heaters, ceramic heaters, fan heaters and propane heaters.

* Severe electrical heaters used to heat larger areas. They are able to heat over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.Economical and easy to handle, the heating element heats the oil, which in turn heats the air around it. Electric heaters do not have exposed serious time, so it is safe to touch.

* Baseboard electric heaters have a heating element, the heated air from it. Warmer air rises to heat during the colder air is heated to drawn. They are good for space for space heating. Baseboard heaters do not need much space and do not need pipelines. I am agood choice for the underground heating in homes, newly built or rebuilt. Baseboard heaters are easy to install in any type of space. They are quiet and free of drafts and make it easy to control the temperature in each room.

* Ceramic heaters work with a fan pushes air over a heating element. A huge grill that oscillates the twin heating elements give the capacity of the heater to heat a larger area. Ceramic heaters also come with a foot switch, tip overSwitch, built-in air filter, overheat sensor and an anti-freeze setting.

* Fan heater with a fan to pull air through a heating element. This feature reduces the thermal resistance between the heating element and the environment, heating an area more quickly.

* Propane heaters are good for a small basement, approximately 300 square feet. They radiate heat using propane gas as fuel. You do not need electricity or sewage. Also warms objects and people beforeheats the air.

A few safety tips to consider Heaters

* Place heaters on the floor, not on furniture or tables, where they occur, may give away or broken parts in heating, which could cause fire or electric shock.

* Do not use heaters in damp or wet unless it is certified for this purpose. Damage or corrosion to parts of the heater can cause electric shock or fire.

* Make sure the plug is fully inserted into the socket to use. Aloose plug can overheat, causing a fire.

* Do not put rugs or carpet over the strings, sometimes it can overheat and cause a fire Spinal

* If your heater breaks down, contact a qualified technician. Try not to be resolved.

* Ensure that all unvented gas heaters with an oxygen depletion sensor. This sensor detects a reduced level of oxygen around the heating system and switch off before a dangerous amount of carbon monoxideaccumulates. Note the warnings about the dangers of carbon monoxide, which are marked on the heater.

* Did you install the gas heating and ventilation system and tested by professionals according to local regulations.

* Ensure adequate ventilation gas stoves

* If you smell gas, do not try to LIGHT THE APPLIANCE. Do not touch any electrical switch or groped to use the phone. Open a window or a door and leave the area immediately. Then go to a neighbors and call a gas servicePerson or the fire department to make them aware of the loss.

* Equip your home with at least one smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector per floor.

* Make sure you have at least one dry-powder-operative, ABC-type fire extinguisher kept in the house at all times.

* Hold the can around heat sources free of newspapers catch trash and debris fires.
